Antagonistic Activity of Siderophore-Producing Bacteria from Black Rice Rhizosphere against Rice Blast Fungus Pyricularia oryzae

چکیده

Rice blast caused by Pyricularia oryzae, which is a major threat to food security worldwide, markedly decreases the yield of rice. Some rhizobacteria called 'plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria' inhibit plant pathogens and improve growth secreting iron-chelating siderophores. The decreased availability iron adversely affects survival pathogens, especially fungal in rhizosphere. This study aimed determine morphological diversity siderophore-producing bacteria, analyze type siderophores produced examine their growth-inhibitory activity against oryzae. were isolated from rhizosphere Sembada Hitam variety black rice plants Pakem, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. In total, 12 distinct isolates screened for production It was found that 9 out bacteria siderophore most them Gram positive bacteria. best with different used further studies. Isolation of siderophore producing bacteria from rhizosphere soil and their antagonistic activity against selected fungal plant pathogens

Bacteria are generally the predominant initial inhabitants of newly expanded leaves, while yeast and filamentous Fungi dominate later in the growing season (Srivastava and Shalini, 2008). The extraordinary use of chemical fungicides resulted in environmental pollution and ill health to biotic community as a whole. Therefore biological method of plant disease management seems to be a better alte...

Rice blast fungus sequenced

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major staple food crop for half of the world’s population. The International Rice Research Institute, Philippines, estimates that in order to feed the growing global population, rice production must increase by another one-third by the year 2020. Magnaporthe grisea (anamorph, Pyricularia oryzae) causes rice blast disease (Figure 1) and is the most destructive pathoge...

Genetic diversity of siderophore-producing bacteria of tobacco rhizosphere

The genetic diversity of siderophore-producing bacteria of tobacco rhizosphere was studied by amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA), 16S rRNA sequence homology and phylogenetics analysis methods. Studies demonstrated that 85% of the total 354 isolates produced siderophores in iron limited liquid medium. A total of 28 ARDRA patterns were identified among the 299 siderophore-produc...

Oxygenated Fatty Acids with Anti-rice Blast Fungus Activity in Rice Plants.

Expecting that the different characteristics of rice plants against rice blast fungus, that is, susceptibility of the weaker cultivar, Sasanishiki and resistance of the stronger cultivars, Fukuyuki and Fukunishiki, may be due to the absence or presence of anti-fungus compounds in the rice plants, the anti-rice blast fungus substances in these three kinds of rice plants were explored. We found f...

PLANT GROWTH PROMOTING AND ANTAGONISTIC ACTIVITY OF Bacillus STRAINS ISOLATED FROM RICE RHIZOSPHERE

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are advantageous bacteria that inhabit around plant roots and enhance plant growth by a wide variety of direct and indirect mechanisms. Utilization of PGPR is now gradually increasing in agriculture and offers an attractive way to replace chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and supplements. In our present study six endospore forming bacterial isolates t...
